The Longed For. . .

Spring, the long awaited
The winter's cold abated
The cold white sky turns bluer
And sunny warmth is truer
.
Snow, vanishing to mud
On the twig there is a bud
Leaves uncurling, unfurling
Warm-weather vanes are whirling

Life springs from warmth and light
Robins singing sweet and bright
Tow'ring hopes of summer joy
Healthy games for girl and boy

Green, the longed for color
Ice has gone from the harbor
Grass around the docks and fields
Guarding all like swords and shields
.
