Photos and Journaly Bits of the Week

Still reading and laughing our way through 'Psmith' at dinner time. Which would you rather do for homeschool grammar? Have a lecture on the use of simile in literature or read Wodehouse?

Sugary faces at the breakfast table. Not a portrait for posterity, perhaps, but so sweet to me...

this morning. cool rain out--glowy warmth in.

Jeff's farmer man breakfast. The last of the garden peppers and tomatoes make a nice omelette..

Happy day! The UPS lady brought our ESV study Bibles, hot off the press. Our 25th anniversary gift to each other. Can't wait to dig in.
.
More happiness. We've begun reading the Narnia series aloud to Ben. Each of our children has gotten to hear these stories for the first time during their fifth grade year. We've waited 'til then with each child, believing that age 10 or 11 is just right for maximum impact and pleasure in them. My fifth grade teacher, Miss Olson, read them to my class, a chapter or two each afternoon. I will never forget my rapture. Livi has joined Ben and me as I've read and here she's picking up another [begged for] chapter while I get noon dinner on the table. We finished the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe today. Glorious. I bawled. again.
.
These nights have been cold enough for frost, so we've brought in potted herbs and covered my beloved rosemary and sage in the garden beds the last few evenings. I snipped these gaillardia and brought them in to safety and warmth taking every bit of autumn joy from them 'til the last.

Please come read to me! Or at least hold one of my treasures (or two) so that I can find my meal plan for the week. Any chance or a 'chance' meeting before the snow falls? The crew is asking about you and missing your Ben and Liv. Are we supposed to be teaching our 5th graders grammar? Maybe next year............
